Abstract:
Abstract: The USDA's role in improving human nutrition is briefly explored by reviewing the Department's contributions through research, education, information and program assistance. The Department's Science and Education Administration brings together research, extension and education resources. These services include: administering the Human Nutrition Center, publishing research and booklets of general interest, running the Cooperative Extension Service and the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program, reaching children through extension, offering competitive research grants, coordinating research, and servicing the public through the Food and Nutrition Information Education Research Center. The USDA's Food and Nutrition Service Programs include the Food Stamp Program, the WIC program, the Nutrition Education and Training Program, and a multimedia project. Other USDA nutrition activities are discussed.
