Abstract:
Presents findings on the nutrients and foods provided in school meals, and describes the dietary intakes of the nation's students on a typical day. The study compares the nutrients provided in school meals and the nutrients consumed by students with several standards, such as the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program goals, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, the National Research Council's Diet and Health Recommendations, etc. Information was collected from a nationally representative sample of schools and a nationally representative sample of students attending these schools.
