Nutrition education for school-aged children : a review of research

Includes the results of a literature review of nutrition education for school-aged children conducted for the USDA Food and Nutrition Service to provide insight into two questions: Does nutrition education work? and what additional information is needed to develop nutrition education policies and plan effective programs? A library literature search was conducted using 1980 until present as the relevant time period. The search focused primarily on the AGRICOLA, Medline, and CRIS databases. Articles included in the review meet the following criteria: a nutrition education program was delivered to children from kindergarten through high school ages within or outside of a school setting; a control group was included in the research design; an outcome evaluation was reported; and the nutrition education program was not directed at high-risk youth. The review resulted in relevant articles, all found in peer-reviewed journals.
